Meet Europe

At the centre of DEMOCRACY ALIVE are the organisers who will host their events at the festival! These are the organisations, movements and institutions ensuring that all parts of the European conversation are represented. We are asking organisations from our network, and beyond, to participate by holding creative events, inspiring talks and debates about the issues that matter.

DEMOCRACY ALIVE offers the chance to engage directly with citizens, European and national decision-makers, as well as colleagues in organised civil society in a new and innovative way.

What you get

We provide:

Organiser pavilions will be a 20m² Pagode tent with 5 x 5 meters sailcloth sidewall, with flooring equipped with electricity, heating, basic lighting as well as audio, speakers, chairs and tables if so wished. 

Pavilions can hold 18 people seated and up to 25 people standing.


Organisers have the choice between one of two options :


To either join the festival’s main square and occupy one of up to 20 pavilions located around the main stage.


Or, for those who would rather, our partnering local venues in Den Burg (cafes, restaurants, cinema) are happy to discuss the possibility of hosting an event over the three days.
** Please note that partnering venues are also available for organisations with pavilions for larger events

Organisers are responsible for planning their own programmes aimed at engaging festival-goers. As hosts of the festival, the European Movement International will also be holding central events on the main stage. Please make sure to send us the names and details of all speakers and special guests you plan to invite to the festival. This list will be shared with all festival participants to ensure some level of coordination and efficiency. We very much encourage organisers to work together on events and invitations.

Pitch Allocation

As organisers, we ask that you please send us your three preferred pavilion locations. We will provide a layout of the festival main square in our correspondence with you. Pavilion pitches will be allocated on first-come, first-served basis so please don’t hesitate to contact us ! We will confirm your allocated pavilion by mid-February.

Internet Connection
Free Wi-Fi connection will be available over the duration of the festival. This internet connection is provided by the Municipality of Texel. Passwords will be given to participants upon arrival.

Important Dates & Deadlines

All requests to register and Memorandum of Understandings, signed and dated, must be received by Friday, 15 February 2019

Specific additional fixture and furniture demands must be received Friday, 1 March 2019

Full list of invited guests and speakers must be received by Friday, 8 March 2019

Pavilions will be available to all organisers from 14:00 on Wednesday, 10 April; breakdown will begin at 23:00 on Saturday, 13 April 2019.

The festival is a non-partisan arena for you and your organisation to share your message and vision for Europe. A part of the official programme will be created and curated by the European Movement International, but the majority of events and debates will be organised by the participating organisations.

The quality of festival events will be a direct result of having organisers who all accept their part of the responsibility by respecting and following our criteria. In DEMOCRACY ALIVE, we make no exceptions from our criteria, so please make sure you take them into consideration before you sign up your pavilion and/or event.

Pavilions and Events shall:

Raise pro-democracy themes and ideologies
Be open to all
Be free of charge and without tickets
Be placed and held on the island of Texel

In respect and consideration for everyone participating in DEMOCRACY ALIVE, it is not allowed to:

Sell a product, business or service
Run membership campaigns or collect money
Hand out brochures, pamphlets or other material outside of the assigned area
Use sound or visual effects that can disturb or be seen outside of the assigned area

Event organiser criteria

All legal organisations, political parties and businesses can organise and host an event during DEMOCRACY ALIVE.

The event or pavilion organiser is responsible for following Dutch law as well as all mentioned criteria. The organiser is also responsible for all content and details regarding the event or pavilion.

An organiser who proclaims an anti-democratic, discriminatory, hateful or violent message is not allowed to participate.

When you plan your event, remember that you are responsible for all content and details regarding your event. Please make sure your event follows the criteria above.

The European Movement International team based in Brussels will handle all event applications. However, a planning committee, which will consist of representatives of members of the Alliance for Democracy, sponsors as well as representatives of the Texel local authorities and some key sub-contractors, will be established to move the project forward and to advise and support with logistics.
